Interfering Bodies
2023–ongoing

Although used by over 150 million people worldwide, the IUD can cause serious side effects – ranging from anxiety and depression to dislocation or, in rare cases, death – which are often buried in medical jargon or minimised in consultations. Ariane Mandić uses staged self-portraits and archival research to examine the gap between medical discourse and lived experience. Her work confronts the medical neglect of these complications and calls for greater awareness and accountability.
